Ashiatsu Massage in Columbia
Deep, broad pressure applied with the feet — the deepest work Hannah offers, and one of the few places downtown Columbia you'll find a certified Ashiatsu therapist.
What Ashiatsu actually is
Ashiatsu is barefoot massage. Working from overhead bars for balance and control, Hannah uses her feet instead of her hands to deliver broad, deep, even pressure across the back and large muscle groups. Because the pressure is spread over a wider surface than an elbow or thumb, it reaches deeper without the sharp, digging feeling a lot of people brace against during traditional deep tissue.
If deep tissue has ever left you clenched and guarding the whole session, Ashiatsu is often the answer — same depth, gentler delivery.
Who it's for
Ashiatsu tends to be a favorite for people carrying chronic tension through the back and shoulders, anyone who wants genuinely deep work without the discomfort, and folks who've plateaued with regular deep tissue and want something that reaches further. It's a strong fit for desk-bound Columbia professionals, and for active and retired athletes who need real depth for recovery.
What to expect your first visit
Before every session, Hannah goes over your trouble areas and what your body needs that day, then builds the work around it — no two sessions run the same script. You'll have privacy to undress to your comfort level, the table is warmed, and pressure is checked and adjusted throughout, so "deep" always means deep-for-you, never more than you want.
Wren Recovery is located at 2016 Assembly Street in downtown Columbia, with parking behind the building. It's an easy trip from Main Street, USC, the Vista, and the surrounding neighborhoods.
Ashiatsu FAQ
Does Ashiatsu hurt?
It shouldn't. The pressure is deep but spread across a broad surface, which most people find far more comfortable than the concentrated pressure of elbows or thumbs. Hannah checks in and adjusts throughout.
Is it safe — someone standing on my back?
Hannah never stands on you. She supports her weight on overhead bars and uses her feet to control exactly how much pressure reaches each area. That's what makes the depth so controlled.
How is it different from deep tissue?
Same goal — reaching deep, stubborn tension — but a broader, more even delivery. People who find deep tissue too sharp often prefer Ashiatsu, and people who feel deep tissue isn't deep enough often find Ashiatsu finally gets there.
Where are you located?
